Comiso

Comiso is a town and comune in the southern part of Sicily, in the province of Ragusa. It is situated in the Hyblean region near the southeastern coast and lies inland from the city of Ragusa. The municipality includes a historic town center as well as surrounding rural areas.

Comiso has ancient roots, with evidence of settlement dating back to classical times. The modern town grew during the medieval and early modern periods, and its historic center contains examples of medieval and Baroque architecture, including churches and other civic buildings.

The local economy is largely agricultural, with citrus fruits, olives and vegetables produced in the surrounding plains. In addition to farming, light industry and services contribute to economic activity. The area also attracts visitors through its historic streets and proximity to rural landscapes.

Comiso is served by Comiso Airport, located just outside the town and handling regional and some international flights. The airport originated as a military airbase and was later converted to civilian use, expanding its role in regional transport and providing a gateway for tourism and commerce in the area.
