Cohesindockerinlike, often abbreviated as CDL, refers to a family of proteins found in a variety of organisms, primarily bacteria and archaea. These proteins share structural and functional similarities with the core components of the eukaryotic cohesin complex, a crucial molecular machine involved in chromosome segregation during cell division.

The cohesin complex in eukaryotes is composed of structural maintenance of chromosome (SMC) proteins and kleisin subunits. These proteins form a ring-like structure that topologically encircles sister chromatids, holding them together until the appropriate time for separation. CDL proteins exhibit homology to these eukaryotic cohesin subunits, particularly the SMC proteins.

While the exact biological roles of CDL proteins are still under investigation, their structural resemblance to cohesin suggests involvement in DNA organization and maintenance of genome stability within prokaryotic cells.
