Cirillos

Cirillos is a town and municipality in the eastern part of the fictional country of Arcadia, within the Arcadian Federation. It covers about 42 square kilometers and lies in the Neris River valley at elevations of 180 to 360 meters.

The population was around 9,100 in 2022. The municipal area is largely rural, with a compact historic center and surrounding agricultural villages. The majority identify as Arcadian, with small communities of foreign-born residents; Arcadian is the official language, with Italian and English used in business and education.

Cirillos has medieval origins; it gained town rights in the 15th century and developed as a market town on river trade routes. The town survived wars and fires, with a significant rebuilding phase in the 18th century. In the 19th century, rail access spurred growth, while mid-20th century reforms reshaped local administration.

The economy remains based on agriculture—primarily vineyards and olive groves—and light manufacturing, including textiles and wood products. Service industries, tourism, and commuting to nearby cities also contribute.

Landmarks include Cirillos Cathedral (early 16th century), the Old Bridge across the Neris, and the Market Hall from the 17th century. The town hosts an annual harvest festival in September and maintains a regional cultural center.

Local government operates a municipal council; the mayor serves a four-year term. Education comprises one secondary school and two primary schools, with a public library and community center.
