Cayce

Cayce is a city in central South Carolina, United States. It straddles Lexington and Richland counties and is part of the Columbia metropolitan area, located near West Columbia and the Congaree River. The community has a mixed residential and commercial character and is connected to the capital region by major highways and local transit.

Edgar Cayce (1877–1945) was an American mystic and clairvoyant who purportedly provided readings while in a trance, covering health, past lives, dreams, and other topics. He became widely known as the Sleeping Prophet. In 1931 he founded the Association for Research and Enlightenment (ARE), an organization that preserves his writings, conducts research, and promotes metaphysical and holistic health ideas.

In addition to the city and the person, Cayce is used as a surname and, less commonly, as a given name. The spelling Cayce is a variant of related forms and appears in various communities.
