It is officially known as the Stadt- und Pfarrkirche St. Marien, meaning Town and Parish Church of St. Mary. This prominent church played a significant role in the Protestant Reformation, largely due to its association with Martin Luther. Luther was the pastor of CastleChurch for many years and is famously believed to have posted his Ninety-five Theses on its door on October 31, 1517. This event is widely considered the start of the Reformation.
