Cantning

Cantning, often spelled canting, is a term with several distinct meanings in English, depending on the field.

In lumber and woodworking, canting refers to the process of shaping a log into a cant, a piece with flat, parallel faces that can be further milled into boards, beams, or other structural members. Cants are used to improve handling, reduce waste, and create uniform stock for subsequent processing.
