Caltrains
Caltrain is a commuter rail line that serves the San Francisco Peninsula and Santa Clara Valley. Its northern terminus is in San Francisco, and its southern terminus is in Gilroy. The line is operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (PCJPB), which is a joint powers agency composed of the City and County of San Francisco, San Mateo County Transit District, and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority. Caltrain provides service seven days a week, with varying frequencies depending on the time of day and day of the week. The service is primarily diesel-powered, although electrification is underway and expected to be completed in the coming years, which will enable faster and more frequent service. The railway line follows the historic Overland Route of the Southern Pacific Railroad. It is a vital transportation link for residents and commuters traveling between San Francisco, the South Bay tech centers, and intermediate communities. Caltrain offers various fare options, including monthly passes and single-ride tickets, with discounts for seniors, disabled individuals, and children.
