Caliparis is a fictional maritime civilization described in fantasy literature and world-building guides. It is portrayed as a confederation of coastal city-states that developed extensive seafaring networks across a broad archipelago in a prehistoric-to-early historic era of the imagined continent of Meridia.

Etymology and language: The name Caliparis derives from a regionally attested dialect described in in-world inscriptions. The people spoke Calipari, a language recorded in a script known as the Wind-script, which combined simplified signs with coastal imagery.

Geography and political structure: The Calipari homeland lay in and around the Caliparian Archipelago, a chain of islands and peninsulas along Meridia’s eastern shore. Government was a decentralized confederation of about a dozen city-states, united by a maritime code and a rotating High Circle that coordinated trade, defense, and religious festivals.

Economy and technology: They built advanced wooden hulls and stern-mounted rudders, enabling long-distance voyages and swift coastal trade. Major exports included timber, resin, pottery, and metalwork; imports covered grains, textiles, and raw metals. Navigation relied on star charts, seasonal winds, and coastal pilots.

Culture, history, and archaeology: The Golden Age of Caliparis is dated roughly 9th to 7th centuries BCE in the in-world chronology. Religion featured a pantheon of sea and sun deities, with temple complexes at Port Helia and the Temple of Winds. In-world archaeology identifies sites such as Lapis Gate and Silver Quay, where inscriptions and navigational artifacts, including the Oceanic Atlas, are recovered.
