Caifanes

Caifanes is a Mexican rock band formed in 1987 in Mexico City. They are regarded as one of the most influential acts in the development of Rock en Español, known for blending guitar-driven rock with elements of traditional Mexican music and poetic, socially aware lyrics.

The core of the band was led by Saúl Hernández (vocals and guitar) and Sabo Romo (bass). Over the years, the lineup rotated, with other musicians contributing at different times, including Alfonso André and Alejandro Rosso among others. The group released several studio albums in the late 1980s and early 1990s and achieved broad popularity across Mexico and parts of Latin America. Their sound combined post-punk and new wave influences with Latin rhythms and eclectic arrangements, helping to define the Mexican rock sound of the era.

Caifanes disbanded in the mid-1990s, with frontman Saúl Hernández pursuing a new project, Jaguares, in the following years. The band has reformed for tours and occasional releases, reflecting enduring popularity and a lasting influence on Latin rock. Their music continues to be celebrated for bridging generations of listeners and inspiring subsequent Mexican and Latin American rock bands.
