CPSEs

CPSE stands for Central Public Sector Enterprises in India. These are government-owned corporations that operate across various sectors of the Indian economy. They are established by the Government of India and are owned and managed by the central government, either fully or partially. The primary objective of CPSEs is to foster industrial development, achieve self-reliance, and provide essential services to the public.

These enterprises play a significant role in the Indian economy, contributing to sectors such as energy, mining, manufacturing, telecommunications, and finance. They are instrumental in strategic areas and often undertake projects that require large capital investments or have long gestation periods, which might not be attractive to private sector investment. CPSEs are accountable to the Parliament through their administrative ministries.

The performance and management of CPSEs are overseen by the Department of Public Enterprises, under the Ministry of Finance. The government periodically reviews their performance and takes steps to improve their efficiency and profitability. This includes measures like disinvestment, restructuring, and corporatization, depending on the strategic importance and financial health of the enterprise. CPSEs are a key component of India's economic policy framework.
