CNAME megatartozásokkal, more commonly known as CNAME records, are a fundamental component of the Domain Name System (DNS). They serve as a type of DNS record that aliases one domain name to another. Essentially, a CNAME record establishes a canonical name, meaning it points to another domain name where the actual DNS records reside.

When a DNS query is made for a domain that has a CNAME record, the DNS resolver does not directly return an IP address. Instead, it returns the target domain name specified in the CNAME record. The resolver then performs a subsequent query for this target domain name to retrieve its associated records, which typically include an A record (for IPv4) or AAAA record (for IPv6) containing the IP address.

CNAME records are particularly useful for managing subdomains. For instance, a company might use a CNAME record to point their www.example.com subdomain to their main domain example.com. This allows them to manage the IP address centrally for example.com, and any changes to the IP address will automatically reflect for www.example.com without needing to update separate DNS records. Another common use case is pointing a service subdomain, like mail.example.com, to a third-party mail provider's infrastructure. CNAME records are crucial for maintaining flexibility and simplifying DNS management in various web and network configurations.
