This conversion happens when light strikes the photodiodes within each pixel, generating an electrical charge proportional to the light intensity. This charge is then amplified and converted into a digital value.

Their advantages in terms of speed, power efficiency, and cost have made them the dominant image sensor technology in the consumer electronics market.
