CLIÉ

CLIÉ is a brand of handheld devices developed by Sony. The name CLIÉ is a portmanteau of "client" and "clientele," intended to convey the idea of a personalized device for its user. These devices were primarily personal digital assistants, often running the Palm OS operating system.

The first CLIÉ models were released in 2000, offering features such as a touchscreen, stylus input, and the ability to sync with a personal computer. Over time, Sony introduced various models with different screen sizes, resolutions, and functionalities. Some later CLIÉ devices also incorporated multimedia capabilities, including video playback and music listening.

Sony's CLIÉ lineup was known for its stylish designs and user-friendly interface, particularly in the era when PDAs were popular. They competed with other PDA brands of the time. While the brand achieved moderate success, the rise of smartphones and tablet computers eventually led to a decline in the PDA market. Sony discontinued the CLIÉ brand in 2005.
