This standard utilizes direct current (DC) charging, allowing for significantly faster charging times compared to alternating current (AC) charging.

CHAdeMO connectors typically feature a set of pins for both high-power DC charging and a smaller set of pins for communication between the vehicle and the charging station. This communication is crucial for managing the charging process, ensuring safety, and optimizing the battery's state of charge. The standard has been widely adopted by many Japanese automakers and has seen deployment in charging infrastructure globally, particularly in Japan and parts of Europe.
