When an email is sent, the sender can address it to specific recipients in the "To" field, and also copy other individuals in the "Cc" field. Those in the "Cc" field receive a copy of the email but are not the primary addressees. This function is typically used to keep certain individuals informed about a conversation or matter without requiring them to take direct action or respond.

The CC field serves as a way to broaden the audience of an email. For example, a manager might be CC'd on an email between team members to stay updated on project progress. Similarly, a client might be CC'd on an email between departments to be aware of discussions relevant to their interests. Unlike the "Bcc" (Blind Carbon Copy) field, which hides the email addresses of recipients from each other, all CC recipients can see the email addresses of other individuals in both the "To" and "Cc" fields. This transparency is a key characteristic of the CC function.
