CAIE

CAIE, or Cambridge Assessment International Education, is the international examination board of the University of Cambridge and is part of Cambridge Assessment. It develops and delivers a broad range of Cambridge curricula and qualifications to learners aged 5 to 19 in more than 160 countries. Its qualifications are designed to be internationally recognised for progression to higher education and employment.

The organization originated from the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Board (UCLES) and, as Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), began offering international exams. In 2014–2015, CIE adopted the brand Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE). It operates globally through a network of approved schools and examination centers.

CAIE offers a staged set of programs: Cambridge Primary for younger learners, with the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint assessment; Cambridge Secondary 1 leading to Cambridge IGCSE or Cambridge O Level qualifications for ages roughly 11–16; and Cambridge International AS and A Levels for the final years of secondary education. The IGCSE is widely used internationally, while the O Level remains common in some regions; AS and A Levels provide a more advanced track for university entrance.

Assessments are set and marked by Cambridge examiners and typically combine written papers with coursework or practical components, depending on the subject. Cambridge qualifications are widely recognised by universities and employers worldwide, valued for their international orientation and rigour.

CAIE also provides teacher support and resources, including syllabuses, specimen papers, examiner reports, and professional development opportunities. Examinations are conducted through a global network of centers, and results are issued to students and institutions worldwide.
