CAAXMotivs
CAAXMotifs are short amino acid sequences found in proteins that signal for a specific post-translational modification. The "CAAX" designation refers to the general consensus sequence where 'C' represents cysteine, 'A' represents an aliphatic amino acid (such as alanine, valine, leucine, or isoleucine), and 'X' represents any amino acid. These motifs are crucial for prenylation, a lipid modification process.
Proteins containing a CAAX motif are targeted to the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus for prenylation
Examples of proteins that undergo CAAX motif-mediated prenylation include Ras GTPases, lamins, and certain Rho GTPases.
