Bétonnière

Bétonnière is the French word for a concrete mixer. It is a machine used to mix cement, aggregates like sand and gravel, and water to create concrete. There are several types of bétonnières, ranging from small, portable electric mixers used for DIY projects to large, industrial machines used on construction sites.

The most common type of portable bétonnière consists of a rotating drum mounted on a frame. The drum has fins inside that lift and tumble the materials as it rotates, ensuring a thorough mix. The drum is typically powered by an electric motor or a gasoline engine. Larger, truck-mounted bétonnières, often called cement mixers or transit mixers, have a large, rotating drum on the back of a truck. These are used to transport concrete from a batching plant to the construction site and mix it during transit.
