Bélgátlás

Bélgátlás, also known as intestinal obstruction or bowel obstruction, is a serious medical condition where the normal progression of intestinal contents is blocked. This blockage can occur in either the small intestine or the large intestine. Causes are varied and can include adhesions from previous surgery, hernias, tumors, inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's disease, or volvulus (twisting of the intestine). In some cases, impacted stool can also lead to obstruction.

Symptoms of bélgátlás typically include abdominal pain, which may be crampy or constant, nausea, vomiting, and an inability to pass gas or have a bowel movement. Abdominal distension is also a common sign. The severity of symptoms can depend on the location and completeness of the blockage.

Diagnosis usually involves a physical examination, medical history, and imaging studies such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRI scans to visualize the obstruction and its cause. Blood tests may also be performed to check for dehydration or infection.

Treatment for bélgátlás depends on the underlying cause and severity. Initially, treatment may involve bowel rest, intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration, and nasogastric decompression to relieve pressure. If the obstruction is complete or caused by a condition like a strangulated hernia or tumor, surgery may be necessary to remove the blockage and, if required, part of the affected intestine. Prompt medical attention is crucial as bélgátlás can lead to serious complications like bowel perforation, infection, and death if left untreated.
