Brottsskadenämnden

Brottsskadenämnden, often translated as the Crime Victim Compensation Board or Crime Damage Compensation Board, is a Swedish government agency responsible for compensating victims of crime. Its primary role is to provide financial compensation for damages and injuries suffered as a result of a criminal act. This compensation can cover various expenses, including medical care, lost income, and pain and suffering.

The agency operates based on the Swedish Crime Damage Act (Brottsskadelagen). To be eligible for compensation, the crime must have occurred in Sweden, and the victim must have suffered personal injury or property damage directly caused by the criminal act. Certain conditions apply, such as reporting the crime to the police within a specified timeframe.
