Boyington

Boyington is a surname of English origin. It is most commonly found in the United States and the United Kingdom today, and has been carried by several notable individuals as well as families with military associations.

Gregory "Pappy" Boyington (1912–1988) was a United States Marine Corps fighter ace during World War II. He is credited with 28 aerial victories and commanded VMF-214, the "Black Sheep" squadron. Boyington received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the war and became a prominent figure in American military history.

The exploits of Boyington and his squadron inspired popular culture, most notably the television series Baa Baa Black Sheep (also known as Black Sheep Squadron), which aired from 1976 to 1978 and featured Robert Conrad portraying Boyington.
