BowmanKapsel
BowmanKapsel, also known as Bowman's capsule, is the cup-shaped portion of the nephron in the kidney that surrounds the glomerulus and together with the glomerulus forms the renal corpuscle. It consists of two layers: a parietal layer of simple squamous epithelium and a visceral layer formed by podocytes that wrap around the glomerular capillaries. The space between these layers is Bowman's space, which collects the filtrate produced by the blood as it passes through the glomerulus.
The glomerular filtration barrier—the interface between the blood and the capsule—comprises three components: the fenestrated endothelium
Location and function: The BowmanKapsel sits in the renal cortex and forms the initial portion of the
Clinical relevance: Disorders affecting the filtration barrier can alter filtrate composition, leading to proteinuria or hematuria
Development and variation: The capsule develops as part of nephron formation during embryogenesis; in adults its
