Bose-Einsteinjakaumaa describes the statistical distribution of bosons in thermal equilibrium. Bosons are a class of particles that do not obey the Pauli exclusion principle, meaning that multiple bosons can occupy the same quantum state. This unique property leads to distinct statistical behavior compared to fermions, which do obey the exclusion principle.

The Bose-Einstein distribution function, denoted by $n_i$, gives the average number of bosons in a specific energy state $i$. This function is dependent on the energy of the state $\epsilon_i$, the temperature $T$, and the chemical potential $\mu$. The formula for the Bose-Einstein distribution is $n_i = \frac{1}{e^{(\epsilon_i - \mu)/k_B T} - 1}$, where $k_B$ is the Boltzmann constant.

A key consequence of the Bose-Einstein distribution is the phenomenon of Bose-Einstein condensation. At sufficiently low temperatures, a significant fraction of bosons can occupy the lowest energy state. This macroscopic occupation of a single quantum state gives rise to unique macroscopic quantum phenomena, such as superconductivity and superfluidity. The chemical potential $\mu$ is related to the total number of particles and must be less than the lowest energy state for the distribution to be well-defined. The distribution is fundamental to understanding the behavior of particles like photons and helium-4 atoms.
