Borgnine

Ernest Borgnine, born Ermes Effron Borgnini on January 24, 1917, in Hamden, Connecticut, was an American actor of Italian descent. He adopted the surname Borgnine early in his acting career. He served in the United States Navy during World War II before pursuing acting professionally.

His screen breakthrough came with a supporting role in From Here to Eternity (1953), followed by the lead performance in Marty (1955), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. The Marty role established him as a leading man known for warmth and humor, as well as a capacity for gravitas in dramatic work.

During the 1960s, Borgnine became a television star as Lt. Commander Quinton McHale in the sitcom McHale's Navy (1962–1966). He later appeared in a wide range of films, with The Poseidon Adventure (1972) among his most enduring roles, portraying Reverend Scott, a chaplain who helps others during the disaster.

In later years Borgnine continued to act in films and television, including guest appearances and voice work. He remained active in show business for several decades and is remembered for his distinctive presence and versatility. He died on July 8, 2012, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 95.
