Borítékformátumok refer to the standardized sizes and designs of envelopes used for mailing correspondence. These formats ensure that envelopes fit properly into mail processing machines and meet postal service regulations for efficient delivery. The most common formats are dictated by international standards, such as ISO 269, and national postal administrations.

The most widely recognized format is the European C-series, which includes the C4, C5, and C6 envelopes. A C4 envelope is designed to hold an unfolded A4 sheet of paper, measuring 229 x 324 mm. A C5 envelope is half the size of a C4, suitable for A5 paper or folded A4 paper, measuring 162 x 229 mm. The C6 envelope is typically used for folded A4 paper (folded into quarters) or A6 postcards, measuring 114 x 162 mm. Another common format is the DL (Dimension Lengthwise) envelope, which is half the height of a C6 and three times its width, designed for A4 paper folded into thirds, measuring 110 x 220 mm.

Beyond these standard sizes, there are also specialized envelope formats designed for specific purposes. These can include window envelopes, which have a transparent cutout to display the recipient's address printed on the enclosed document, or padded envelopes for protecting fragile items during transit. Larger formats are also available for bulkier mailings. The choice of borítékformátum often depends on the size and nature of the document being sent, as well as the desired aesthetic presentation.
