Blandingsventil

Blendingventil, or blandingsventil in some languages, is a valve designed to mix hot and cold water to achieve a predefined outlet temperature or to regulate the temperature of a heating circuit’s supply. In potable water systems, it helps prevent scalding, while in hydronic heating and solar loops it can control water temperatures to protect equipment and improve comfort.

Most blandingsventiler are thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) that automatically adjust the mixed flow in response to changes in outlet temperature. Some are manual blending valves, where the user sets the mix. TMVs rely on a thermostatic element, such as a bimetal or wax actuator, to sense temperature and modulate the valve. Some designs are pressure-balanced to maintain stable outlet temperatures despite supply pressure fluctuations.

Applications include domestic hot-water distribution, showers and other fixtures where a safe outlet temperature is required, as well as heating systems to lower return temperatures to boilers, protect components, and accommodate radiant-floor or solar-thermal circuits.

Installation and standards: blandingsventiler must be rated for potable water and installed at or near the point of use or at the water heater. They are certified to regional standards and codes and should be correctly matched to flow and pressure conditions. Common certifications come from regional bodies or European EN standards, among others.

Maintenance: periodic inspection for leaks, verification and adjustment of the temperature setting, and replacement of internal cartridges or seals per manufacturer recommendations. Hard-water scale and debris can affect response time and accuracy, so regular flushing may be required.
