Blackground

Blackground is a term used to describe the area of an image or scene that forms the backdrop. The choice of background color, including black, shapes contrast, depth, and focus of the subject. A black background is common in portraiture, product photography, and stage design to eliminate distractions and emphasize lighting and form.

In media production, black backgrounds can affect perception by absorbing light, which reduces reflections and can create a dramatic or minimalist effect. In post-production, background replacement or removal techniques separate the subject from the background.

In computing and digital media, the term is sometimes used incorrectly as a misspelling of "background." There is also the CSS property background-color used to specify backgrounds; when set to black, it creates a black backdrop for elements.

Blackground Records is an American record label founded by Barry Hankerson in the 1990s. It has been associated with a number of artists and released several influential R&B and hip-hop recordings, including the early works of Aaliyah. The label's catalog has seen reissues and administration through newer distribution arrangements after periods of inactivity.
