Bizzarros

Bizzarros are a fictional alien species appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. They are primarily known as antagonists of the superhero Superman. The Bizzarro species originates from the planet Bizarro, a world where all inhabitants are imperfect, illogical duplicates of Superman. These duplicates are created by a ray machine called the Duplicator, which malfunctions in a way that creates a flawed, opposite version of whatever it scans.

Bizarros possess powers similar to Superman, such as super strength, flight, and heat vision. However, these powers are often expressed in a distorted or reversed manner. For example, their heat vision emits cold, and their freeze breath emits heat. Their logic is also inverted, leading to actions that appear nonsensical to humans but are perfectly rational from their perspective. They often speak in paradoxes and contradictions.

The first Bizzarro appeared in Superboy #65 in 1958, created by Otto Binder and George Papp. Over time, the concept evolved, introducing a whole world of Bizarros and a society based on inverse logic. While often portrayed as villains due to their destructive capabilities and misunderstanding of the world, some Bizarro characters have shown a capacity for empathy and have even attempted to be heroes, albeit in their own peculiar way. The most famous Bizzarro is Bizarro #1, the first and most powerful of his kind, who frequently attempts to replace Superman in Metropolis.
