Bitintarkkuuden, often translated as "bit precision" or "bit depth" in English, refers to the number of bits used to represent a single sample of data, particularly in digital audio and image processing. This value determines the resolution and dynamic range of the digital representation.

In digital audio, bitintarkkuuden dictates the range of amplitudes that can be represented. A higher bit depth allows for a wider dynamic range, meaning the difference between the quietest and loudest sounds that can be captured and reproduced without distortion or quantization noise is greater.
