Bidyadanga

Bidyadanga is a small Aboriginal Australian community located in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It is situated approximately 55 kilometers southeast of the town of Broome and is home to the Banjima people, one of the traditional Indigenous groups of the region. The community has a population of around 250 residents, mostly of Aboriginal descent.

Bidyadanga, also known as Ngumpanhinahurr, has a long history dating back thousands of years. The area was traditionally inhabited by the Banjima people, who maintained a close relationship with the land and its resources. The community was established in the 1960s as a settlement for Indigenous Australians who were forced off their land due to the construction of the King River Dam. Today, the community continues to face challenges related to poverty, limited access to education and employment opportunities, and health care disparities.

In recent years, efforts have been made to improve living conditions in the community, including the construction of new homes and infrastructure development. The Western Australian Government has also implemented various programs aimed at promoting economic development, education, and health care in Bidyadanga. Additionally, the community has sought to preserve traditional ways of life through cultural initiatives, such as language classes and artistic projects.
