Betacellulin
Betacellulin is a protein that belongs to the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family. It is a signaling molecule involved in cell growth, proliferation, and differentiation. Betacellulin plays a role in the development and function of various tissues, including the pancreas, liver, and skin. It exerts its effects by binding to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) on the surface of target cells, initiating intracellular signaling cascades.
In the pancreas, betacellulin is particularly important for the survival and function of beta cells, which
