Berklabólga

Berklabólga, also known as bacterial meningitis, is a serious infection of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It is caused by bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria meningitidis, or Haemophilus influenzae type b. These bacteria can enter the body through the bloodstream or respiratory tract and then travel to the central nervous system.

The symptoms of berklabólga can develop rapidly and include sudden fever, severe headache, stiff neck, and sensitivity to light. Other signs may include confusion, vomiting, and rash. In infants, symptoms can be less specific and may include irritability, poor feeding, and lethargy.

Berklabólga is a medical emergency that requires prompt diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics. Early treatment can significantly improve the chances of recovery and reduce the risk of long-term complications, such as hearing loss, brain damage, or seizures.

Prevention is also crucial. Vaccination against some common causes of berklabólga, such as Haemophilus influenzae type b and certain strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Neisseria meningitidis, is available and recommended for children. Good hygiene practices, like frequent handwashing, can also help prevent the spread of the infection. While anyone can get berklabólga, it is more common in infants, young children, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
