Bergisch
Bergisch is a regional term in Germany that designates both the Bergisches Land, a hilly area in North Rhine-Westphalia, and the language varieties spoken there. Geographically, the Bergisches Land lies between the Rhine to the west and the Sauerland foothills to the east, extending into parts of the Rhine-Ruhr region. The area includes cities such as Solingen, Remscheid, and Wuppertal, and is linked to nearby districts like Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis and Oberbergischer Kreis.
Historically, the region developed around the medieval County of Berg and later became part of the Electorate
Bergisch also designates a group of dialects belonging to the West Central German/ Rhine-Ruhr dialect continuum.
In modern usage, Bergisch refers to cultural and linguistic heritage as well as the landscape and towns
