Beambrücken

Beambrücken, also known as beam bridges, are the simplest and most common type of bridge. They consist of horizontal beams supported at each end by abutments, piers, or other bridges. The beams carry the load of the bridge deck and any traffic passing over it, transferring that load to the supports.

The design of a beam bridge is straightforward. The beams can be made of various materials, including steel, reinforced concrete, or wood. The length of the span dictates the type and size of beams required. For shorter spans, simple solid beams or I-beams are often sufficient. For longer spans, more complex beam arrangements like box girders or trusses might be employed to increase strength and reduce weight.

Beam bridges are widely used for road overpasses, pedestrian bridges, and across smaller rivers or ravines. Their simplicity in design and construction makes them cost-effective for many applications. However, their span length is limited by the material properties and the load they can bear. When longer spans are needed, other bridge types like arch bridges, suspension bridges, or cable-stayed bridges are typically considered. The straightforward nature of beam bridges also makes them relatively easy to maintain and repair.
