Bassetts

Bassetts is a brand of confectionery, primarily known for its jelly babies. The company was founded in Sheffield, England, in 1842 by George Bassett. Initially, the business was a small sweet shop that grew to become a significant manufacturer. The jelly baby, the company's most iconic product, was first created in 1918 by Bassett's grandson, Harry Jasper Bassett, though it was originally named "Peace Babies" to commemorate the end of World War I. Later, they were rebranded as "Bassetts Jelly Babies" and have remained popular ever since.

Over the years, Bassetts has introduced a variety of other sweets, including liquorice allsorts, sherbet lemons, and fruit pastilles. The company has undergone several ownership changes, eventually becoming part of Cadbury. In 2008, Cadbury was acquired by Kraft Foods, which later split into two companies: Kraft Foods Group and Mondelez International. Bassetts confectionery is now produced and marketed by Mondelez International. The brand continues to be recognized for its distinctive jelly baby characters and a range of fruit-flavored sweets enjoyed by consumers in the United Kingdom and beyond.
