Béjart
Maurice Béjart (1927–2007) was a French-born Swiss choreographer and dancer who helped shape contemporary ballet in the second half of the 20th century. He founded the Ballet du XXe siècle in 1960 in Brussels, a company renowned for ambitious reinterpretations of classical repertoire and for blending ballet with modern dance and diverse cultural influences. In 1987 he established Béjart Ballet Lausanne in Switzerland, which continued his repertory and artistic philosophy after his death.
