Aziya

Aziya is the name used in several languages for the continent of Asia. Spelling and pronunciation vary by language, with forms such as Aziya, Asiya, and Asia appearing in different linguistic contexts. The term denotes the continental landmass that stretches across much of the eastern hemisphere.

Asia is the largest continent by area and population. It covers about 44.58 million square kilometers, roughly 30 percent of the world’s land surface, and is home to about 4.7 to 4.9 billion people, around 60 percent of humanity.

Geographically, Asia is bounded by Europe and the Ural Mountains to the west; the Arctic Ocean to the north; the Pacific Ocean to the east; and the Indian Ocean to the south. Some definitions also include parts of the Middle East as Western Asia, and scholars differ on where Asia ends and Europe begins.

Asia comprises several widely recognized subregions: East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and Western Asia. The region contains immense cultural, linguistic, and religious diversity.

Historically, Asia hosted early civilizations such as Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley, and ancient China. It has been the locus of major trade routes, empires, and scientific and technological innovations. In the modern era, rapid economic growth in many parts of Asia has made it a central arena in global affairs, with major economies including China, India, Japan, and others, and diverse political systems across the region.
