The type of sediments deposited and the resulting rock types are directly influenced by these environmental conditions.

In marine environments, sediments are typically deposited in shallow seas, deep oceans, or along coastlines. Marine depositional environments can include beaches, deltas, and continental shelves. These environments often result in the formation of sedimentary rocks such as sandstone, shale, and limestone.

Continental environments, on the other hand, are characterized by the deposition of sediments on land. These environments can include rivers, lakes, and deserts. In river environments, sediments are deposited in channels, floodplains, and deltas, leading to the formation of rocks like sandstone and conglomerate. In desert environments, sediments are deposited in sand dunes and playas, resulting in the formation of sandstone and evaporite rocks.

Glacial environments involve the deposition of sediments by glaciers. These sediments are typically deposited in moraines, outwash plains, and glacial lakes. The resulting rock types include tillite and sandstone.
