These are substances used to prevent a material from bonding to another surface during manufacturing processes. Their primary function is to facilitate the easy separation of a molded part from its mold or die.

Release agents work by creating a barrier layer between the mold and the material being shaped. This layer has low surface energy, which reduces the adhesion forces. Common types of release agents include waxes, silicones, oils, and specialized polymeric coatings. The choice of release agent depends heavily on the materials involved, the temperature of the process, and the desired surface finish of the final product.
