Avio

Avio is a term used in different domains. The most common references are in computing and aerospace. In computing, AVIO and its components refer to a library in FFmpeg that handles input and output operations. In aerospace, Avio S.p.A. is an Italian company that develops space propulsion and launch systems, including the Vega rocket family.

In FFmpeg, avio provides the low-level I/O abstraction used by the demuxer and muxer components. The central data structure is AVIOContext, which encapsulates a data source or sink and a buffered I/O layer. The library offers functions such as avio_alloc_context, avio_read, avio_write, avio_seek, and avio_close to enable custom implementations of file, memory, or network I/O.
