Avauspotku
Avauspotku is a Finnish term that translates to "opening kick" or "kick-off" in English. It refers to the initial action in a sports match, most commonly in football (soccer) and ice hockey, that formally begins the game. The player designated to perform the avausespotku typically kicks the ball from the center mark of the field or ice. The ball must be kicked forward into the opponent's half of the playing area. Once the avausespotku has been taken, the game is officially underway. In ice hockey, the avausespotku is a face-off at the center ice dot. The term can also be used metaphorically to describe the start of any new endeavor or project.
