Autuas

Autuas is a possible Ancient Roman philosopher who may have lived during the early Imperial period. Little is known about his life, and his works are now extinct. He is occasionally mentioned alongside other obscure philosophers, such as Metrodoras and Diogêtés.

There are only a few fragments of texts attributed to Autuas that have survived through citational references in other works. Some of these citations appear in the writings of the Lebanese scholar and philologist, Photius. These fragments suggest that Autuas wrote on various philosophical subjects, including ethics, metaphysics, and the nature of the universe.

Some scholars have speculated that Autuas may have been a stoa philosopher, due to the style of his surviving fragments, which seem to echo the ideas of Epictetus and other prominent stoic thinkers. However, it is impossible to confirm whether or not this is accurate.
