Autosoojendajad, also known as engine block heaters or coolant heaters, are devices designed to preheat an internal combustion engine before it is started. Their primary function is to warm the engine's coolant, which in turn circulates and heats the engine block, oil, and transmission fluid. This preheating offers several advantages, particularly in cold climates.

The most significant benefit of using an autosoojendaja is easier engine starting. A cold engine is harder to turn over due to increased viscosity of oil and metal contraction. By preheating the engine, the oil flows more freely, reducing wear during startup. Autosoojendajad typically operate by drawing power from an external electrical source, such as a standard household outlet, via a cord that is plugged into the vehicle. There are two main types: immersion heaters, which are installed directly into the engine's coolant passages, and circulation heaters, which heat the coolant externally and then pump it through the engine.
