Aurutuskülmutus

Aurutuskülmutus, also known as evaporative cooling, is a process that uses the evaporation of water to cool air. It is a natural phenomenon that can be observed on a small scale when sweat evaporates from the skin, causing a cooling effect. On a larger scale, it is employed in various cooling systems.

The principle behind evaporative cooling is that when water evaporates, it absorbs heat from its surroundings. In an evaporative cooler, warm, dry air is passed over water-soaked pads or through a water spray. As the water evaporates, it draws heat from the air, lowering its temperature. The now cooler, more humid air is then circulated into a space.

This method is particularly effective in arid climates where the air is dry and has a low humidity. In humid environments, the effectiveness of evaporative cooling is reduced because the air is already holding a significant amount of moisture and cannot readily absorb more through evaporation.

Aurutuskülmutus systems are generally more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly than traditional air conditioning systems that rely on refrigerants. They do not use harmful chemicals and consume less electricity. Common applications include residential cooling in dry regions, industrial processes, and agricultural cooling, such as in greenhouses. The main drawback is the increase in humidity within the cooled space, which can be undesirable in certain applications or climates.
