Attribuuttivalitsimia, often translated as attribute selectors, are a powerful feature in CSS that allows developers to select HTML elements based on their attributes and the values of those attributes. Unlike element selectors that target elements by their tag name (e.g., p, div) or class selectors that target elements by their class attribute (e.g., .my-class), attribute selectors offer a more granular way to style specific elements.

The basic syntax involves enclosing an attribute name within square brackets, like [attribute]. This selects any element that possesses that specific attribute, regardless of its value. For instance, [disabled] would select all elements with a disabled attribute. To further refine the selection, attribute values can be specified. [attribute="value"] selects elements where the attribute has an exact matching value.

CSS also provides variations for more flexible matching. The [attribute~="value"] selector matches elements where the attribute's value is a space-separated list of words, and one of those words is exactly "value". Similarly, [attribute|="value"] matches elements where the attribute's value is exactly "value" or starts with "value" followed immediately by a hyphen. For prefix and suffix matching, [attribute^="value"] selects elements whose attribute value begins with "value", and [attribute$="value"] selects elements whose attribute value ends with "value". Finally, [attribute*="value"] selects elements where the attribute value contains the substring "value" anywhere within it.

Attribuuttivalitsimia are particularly useful for styling elements that don't have specific classes or IDs, or for applying styles conditionally based on the state or properties of an element. For example, they can be used to style all links pointing to a specific domain or to visually distinguish input fields based on their type.
