Aspergillus lajit is a proposed species in the genus Aspergillus. It was described in a 2023 publication based on a combination of morphology and molecular data. Its exact taxonomic status remains unsettled, and some authorities have not accepted it as a distinct species.

Diagnosis and identification: The authors reported distinctive features such as conidial vesicle size and conidiophore morphology that differ from close relatives. Molecular analyses of standard fungal barcoding genes (including ITS, beta-tubulin, and calmodulin) were used to support its separation from related species, though results have not been uniformly reproduced across laboratories.

Morphology and cultivation: In culture, Aspergillus lajit forms fluffy colonies with typical Aspergillus-like vesicle-bearing conidiophores and olive-green to brownish conidia.

Ecology: Isolated from soil and decaying plant material in temperate environments; largely saprotrophic, with potential incidental interactions with plants and other soil biota.

Pathogenicity and uses: There are no confirmed cases of infection linked to this taxon. No industrial applications have been described; the organism is primarily of interest for taxonomy and ecology.

Status and research: The name remains provisional; more isolates and comprehensive multilocus analyses are needed to determine whether it is a distinct species or a synonym of a known Aspergillus.
