Aristolactam

Aristolactam is a group of naturally occurring organic compounds belonging to the alkaloid family. These compounds are derived from aristolochic acid, which is found in plants of the Aristolochia genus, commonly known as pipevine. Aristolactams are characterized by a specific chemical structure featuring an aromatic ring system fused with a lactam ring.

Aristolochic acids, the precursors to aristolactams, have been identified as nephrotoxins, meaning they are harmful to the kidneys.
