Argikulusids
Argikulusids are an extinct group of small, arthropod-like organisms that lived during the late Cambrian period, approximately 505 to 490 million years ago. Fossils attributed to this taxon have been primarily found in the Burgess Shale type deposits of British Columbia, Canada, as well as in the Chengjiang biota of Yunnan, China, indicating a broad geographic distribution across the early Paleozoic seas. The name “Argikulus” derives from the Greek words for “silver” (argos) and “somewhat unknown” (kulos), reflecting the silvery exoskeleton and the uncertain phylogenetic placement of these organisms.
Morphologically, argikulusids possess a segmented exoskeleton, a feature common to many early arthropods. They ranged from
The ecology of argikulusids remains largely speculative; however, the sedimentary context of their fossils indicates they
