Archie

Archie is a masculine given name, typically a shortened form of Archibald. It is used in English-speaking countries and has been borne by numerous people and fictional characters, including the fictional Archie Andrews, the central character of the Archie Comics universe.

Archie Comics is an American comic book publisher known for its long-running Archie series. Founded in 1941 as MLJ Magazines, the company adopted the Archie Comics name in 1946. It is best known for Archie Andrews and his friends Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Jughead Jones, set in the town of Riverdale. The Archie brand expanded to television, film, and merchandise.

Archie Andrews, a bright, well-meaning teenager, is the principal character and anchor of the Archie Comics line; his stories often focus on school, dating, and friendships. The franchise's popularity has led to numerous spin-offs and adaptations, most notably the Riverdale TV series.

Archie also refers to Archie, the early Internet search tool developed in 1990 by Alan Emtage at McGill University. Archie indexed FTP archive sites by filename and allowed users to locate downloadable files before the World Wide Web became dominant. The project inspired later search tools such as Veronica and Jughead, which searched the Gopher space.
