Aponeuroosiset refers to aponeuroses, which are broad, flat sheets of dense regular connective tissue. These structures serve as a type of fascia, primarily functioning as points of attachment for muscles. Instead of a cord-like tendon, muscles attach to the skeleton via these wider, flatter expansions.

Aponeuroses are crucial for transmitting the force generated by muscle contraction to bones, enabling movement. They can also play a role in stabilizing body parts and forming partitions within the body. Their arrangement allows for the dispersal of tensile forces over a larger area, which can be advantageous in certain anatomical locations.

Examples of aponeuroses are found throughout the body. The abdominal aponeuroses are a prominent example, forming the lateral and anterior walls of the abdomen and serving as attachment sites for abdominal muscles. The palmar aponeurosis in the hand and the plantar aponeurosis in the foot are also well-known aponeuroses that support and protect these regions. In the skull, the galea aponeurotica is a significant aponeurosis that connects the frontal and occipital muscles of the scalp. The structure and arrangement of aponeuroses are adapted to the specific biomechanical demands of the areas they serve.
